Brunel University West London

The BAB has announced details of their Annual National Course to be held in October. All BAB members (and this includes members of the Fudokai Aikido Dojo) are welcome to attend.

These courses have a selection of instructors from various national Aikdo groups so this is a good place to find out what the various organisations are about.

Nobuyoshi Tamura (8th Dan): 2nd March 1933 - 9th July 2010

It is with great sadness that I have to report that Nobuyoshi Tamura Sensei passed away on 9thJuly.

Apparently he had been suffering from pancreatic cancer and was hospitalised and operated on in April of this year.

Mike, Mairi and I, along with many others, regard this as an enormous loss to whole body of Aikido - Tamura sensei's Aikido was something very special.

The class for Monday 26th July has been rescheduled for Wednesday 28th July.

This booking has been confirmed with Costessey Parish Council, so I'd appreciate it if those people who said they would (or at least could) make it do actually turn up for this class.

The class will be at our normal times of 7:15 pm - 9:15 pm.

In the dojoAnother successful class with one new student (Francis). I actually remembered to get out the camera and get a 'photo of the new venue with the mats down etc. In the group photo are (L to R): Nigel, David, Spencer, Me, Phil, Francis and Jon. At the front of the group is the Fudokai's senior student Aiki-Ted who is very much into a 'soft-style' of Aikido.

We held our first session in the Owen Barnes room last night and it was great success.

It really is a pleasure to be in a room on our own rather than in part of a sports hall - no more shuttlecocks landing unexpectedly on the mat during training. The people at the Bob Carter Centre (both the staff and the badminton players) have been a pleasure to work with for the past couple of years but, like any group, we've wanted a room of our own.

A couple of dates for your diary...

The Owen Barnes room will not be available on the 26th July and 22nd November. On these days the Blood Transfusion people will be taking over the room.

So along with no classes on bank holiday Mondays there will not be a class on these two other Mondays.

The mats are moved, ready for the first class at the new venue. My thanks to Hugh, Nigel (and his family) and Mairi for their invaluable assistance.

On Friday Mairi and I erected a mat storage box in the cupboard off the side of the Owen Barnes room. It's a bit cramped and we've only got the space for the one set of mats at present but it will have to do.

As part of the change of venues from the Bob Carter Centre, Drayton where we are currently located to our new regular slot in the Owen Barnes Room in Costessey there will be a hiaitus in the club training schedule.

The Fudokai Aikido Dojo will close it's doors at the Bob Carter Centre at the end of April and re-open in the Owen Barnes Room in June.

The last class at the Bob Carter Centre will be on Monday 26th April, and there will be no further classes until we start anew in the Owen Barnes Room on Monday 14th June.
